The fourth International Symposium on Blue Laser and Light Emitting Diodes (ISBLLED 2002) will be held at the Conference and Exhibition Centre in Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain, from March 11th to 15th, 2002.

This Symposium is the successor to the previous Symposia held in Japan (Chiba University 1996 and Kazusa Academic Center 1998) and Germany (Berlin 2000). Its main objective is to provide a joint forum for the GaN and ZnSe communities, gathering experts from industry and academia and students to explore issues which are common to both material systems.

The Venue Top of the Page

Located in the former Main Hospital of St. Sebastián, in the heart of the historic-artistic area of Córdoba, facing the Great Mosque. Built in 1512, it includes a Mudejar cloister and a church with pilasters, ogival arches and a tracery vault. Today, Córdoba brightly reflects its ancient leadership, gathering all its Roman, Arabic, Jewish and Christian cultures that have led to an exceptional and unique historic heritage.

ISBLLED 2002 will cover the entire spectrum of GaN-and ZnSe-based semiconductors and their optoelectronic properties and applications, spanning from growth and substrate-epilayer constraints, over heterostructures and doping, to device physics, processing and reliability.

Papers will be solicited on a variety of topics, including but not restricted to the following:

The abstracts including title, authors’ name (presenting author in capital letters) and affiliation, must follow the template format (MSWord97) available at this web page. (Download the Abstract Template)

The contributions should be original and relevant to the Symposium scope. Submitted abstracts will be refereed by the Program Committee, and the decision mailed to the principal author by 31 December 2001.

Late-News Papers reporting very recent results of special relevance will also be accepted. The corresponding abstracts are expected by 31 January 2002. Authors will be notified on the acceptance by 15 February 2002.

Proceedings Top of the Page

The proceedings of ISBLLED2002 wil be published as a special issue of Physica Status Solidi within four months after the conference. Authors of invited and accepted papers are encouraged to submit a manuscript prior to the Symposium. Manuscripts should be delivered in three copies, and accompanied bya disk (DOS format floppy or CD-ROM) containing text and figures, by February 15th 2002 to:

Please make sure that disk files and hardcopies are identical. The electronic submission can also be made via electronic mail using the conference address: isblled2002@die.upm.es

• Do not send manuscripts to the Editorial Office of physica status solidi.

• The length of the manuscripts should be of a maximum of 8 printed pages for invited papers and 6 for accepted contributions. Three double-space manuscript pages typically amount to two printed pages and three figures correspond to about one printed page. This approximation is usually sufficient for estimating the final paper length, since camera-ready manuscripts are not required and papers will be typesetted according to the standard layout of the journal.

• Prepare your manuscript using Microsoft Word (WordPerfect, RTF), LaTeX, RevTeX, or compatible formats. All textual material (incl. tables, captions, etc.) should be in a single file.

• Microsoft Word: You may use the provided document template pss.dot; an example is the file instruct.doc which contains extended author instructions in the style of a manuscript.

• LaTeX 2e: The style file pss.cls is available (with instruct.tex as sample file) inside the zip file pss-isblled.zip.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Title and Author Information

• A corresponding address valid for the entire period from submission until publication must be given, especially if the current address differs from the author's affiliation in the paper.

• Please identify the corresponding author and add phone, fax, and e-mail as a footnote.

• The classification system (PACS numbers) should be used (www.physica-status-solidi.com).

• An abstract of about ten lines is required.

Figures and Tables

• Figures must be submitted ready for reproduction. Lettering/symbols should be large and clear enough for size reduction. Avoid small open symbols, small dots, small decimal points, hairlines, close-dotted or short-dashed lines. Draw a closed axes frame in diagrams. For numbers, use a decimal point instead of a comma.

• If the style/template is used, figures and tables may be embedded as floating objects, but in Word files all figures/tables and all captions MUST appear again at the end of the paper (figures as full-page images). Please make sure to submit separate file versions of your figures (PS, EPS, TIFF, GIF, PDF, CorelDraw, Origin) if they are not embedded in the text file.

• In double-spaced manuscripts, tables with captions and single figures should appear on separate pages, with all figure captions on a separate page as well.

• Colour figures submitted in electronic format will generally be published in colour in the internet PDF version of an article at no cost. Print version will be black/white unless the author authorizes the colour print publication and contributes to the additional costs.

Quantities and equations

• Both in the text and in equations, physical quantities should be given in italic letters, vectors in roman bold letters. Sub/superscripts which are abbreviations of words or names, physical units, and tabulated mathematical functions should be given in roman letters.

Formatting of Literature Citations

• References should be numbered [in square brackets] and listed in the order of appearance at the end of the manuscript, or inserted using LaTeX commands. The use of the endnote feature in Word is not recommended. Please apply the format used in physica status solidi.

Arriving to Cordoba Top of the Page

If you flight to Madrid Airport (Barajas), a convenient way to reach Cordoba is by train. Trains depart from Atocha Station. There are both high speed trains (AVE) and medium speed trains (TALGO2000) from Madrid to Cordoba. We advise to make reservations in advance. For more information on this means of transport you can visit the official web page of RENFE, the Spanish Train Company.

For the transfer between Barajas Airport and Atocha Train Station there are various options:

• By taxi, it will take you about 30-40 minutes, with an approximated cost of 20-25 Euros.

• By Underground (METRO), from Aeropuerto stop in line 8 (station located in Terminal 3 of the airport) to Atocha RENFE station in line 1. You will need to transfer first in Mar de Cristal to line 4 and then in Bilbao station to line 1. The cost is of 0,95 Euro and it will take you about 1 hour. • By Bus, you can take the bus from the Airport to Colon Square. It will take about 40 minutes to reach the Bus terminal at Colon Square in the center of Madrid, and the cost is 2,31 Euros. The Atocha Train Station is about 10-15 minutes taxi ride from this Bus terminal (around 6 Euros). There are also public buses outside this terminal covering this connection (lines 17, 45) for 0,95 Euro.

Finally, once in Cordoba Train Station, a short taxi ride will take you to your Hotel.
